  1. A flyer that was distributed at the 1993 Annual MUFON Symposium:

  4.                     MUFON AND ...... SCIENCE??
  5.  
  6.    A number of incidents raise disturbing questions about the competence
  7. and integrity of the MUFON leadership.  An egregious example is the
  8. manual _Mutual UFO Network Field Investigator Training: A Handbook for
  9. State Director's_ (sic).  It states "When talking about abductions,
  10. _never-never_ bring the psychic side of the experience to the public's
  11. attention" (page 21, underlining in the original).  This is a policy
  12. typical of occult organizations and contrary to scientific principles.
  13. MUFON's leadership displays the attitude that only the priveleged few
  14. can be trusted with the "Secret Knowledge."  In fact, some of the best
  15. scientific research in ufology demonstrates psychic aspects of
  16. abductions (e.g., see The Omega Project by Kenneth Ring). Why does
  17. Andrus not want the public the know about this?

  19.    Another troubling incident is MUFON's handling of Budd Hopkins' case
  20. of the UFO abduction of Linda Napolitano (stage name "Cortile").  In
  21. issue Number 300 of the Mufon UFO Journal, Walt Andrus predicted that
  22. the Napolitano affair would prove to be "The Case of the Century."  But
  23. where is the evidence??   Why isn't Hopkins presenting additional
  24. information on the case at this convention?   The 25 page paper by
  25. Stefula, Butler and Hansen raised serious questions, and Hopkins seems
  26. to be unable to give satisfactory answers.  Nevertheless, the Mufon UFO
  27. Journal has given many pages to promoting the Napolitano case, but nary
  28. a word of criticism can be found therein.

  30.    The exotic cases such as the Napolitano abduction attract attention.
  31. The MUFON membership and the MUFON coffer$$ increase.  Why isn't a
  32. financial statement published?   What is being hidden?  Who is
  33. benefitting from this shoddy state of affairs?  What is Andrus's real
  34. motive in promoting the Linda case?  At this conference, attendees have
  35. the opportunity to talk with the powers that be.  Questions should be
  36. directed not only to Walter Andrus but also to his Executive Committee
  37. (John Schuessler, Thomas Deuley, John Donegan and Jerold Johnson) as
  38. well as the Director of Research, Dr. Robert Wood.  They should be
  39. publically asked for their opinions on the Linda case.  Their journal
  40. proclaims it to be "The Case of the Century."

  42.    Andrus has no grasp of science.   His actions bring discredit upon
  43. the field of ufology.  It is time for new leadership.  If changes are
  44. not made, members should reconsider their support for this organization.
